Chatting With the Phantom of the Opera Himself!
Hello, dear readers!
Our proffesor has given us the task to chat with an AI chatbot from The Magic School ,which takes the figure of a historical figure or a book character, write a report on the converstion, and lastly, to give the report to the writing feedback tool created by the same company, get feedback and rewrite the report according to the feedbacks! I chose to converse with The Phantom, Erik, from The Phantom of the Opera, written by Gaston Leroux. He is one of my favorite book charaters. I asked him some questions about the French culture in the era that the book takes place in. After questioning I got into writing, made my first draft, gave it to the feedback tool and made some adjustments to my report. However, I have to admit that most of the feedback I received did not seem relevant to me, so I did not use them. You can see the transcript of the conversation, both drafts of my report and the feedback I received by clicking here!
While I was chatting with the bot, I realized that if I had been introduced to a tool like that in my years in high school, my life as a student would be a lot easier. If it even helped me learn new things about old French music, theatric techniques and mechanics, I can't help but think what my future students will learn with the help of a tool as easy to use. The process of my learning and chatting was really smooth and fun, but there were times I couldn't take it seriously because of the constant smirks or dark chuckles in between the sentences. Maybe I can use this tool for fun in my class once (Or maybe twice? who knows?) in a blue moon.
As fun as the experience was, every rose has its thorns. I also believe that AI has drawbacks, which is mainly about safety issues or environmental problems. Of course, I would prefer a website which does not require an account, however it is also good to keep track of students thanks to the mentioned accounts. About the environmental issues, did you know that every question you ask to an AI uses a bottle of water to cool the main computer's systems, practically letting it all go to waste (At least that is what I learned!) ? I wasted at least 11 bottles of water just for this task (Well, except for the water I drank whie doing the task, but I do not believe that was a waste since I practically need it to survive!)! I do not want to waste a lot of water and I trust my own abilities to make the class fun enough, so I will not use it a lot nor depend on it. My final thoughts are; as enternaining as it was, I will not use it a lot or integrate it in my future classes unless AI companies find a better cooling system and improved privacy!
Stay safe and take care!
